Company Biography

David Lisle Johnson and Saeid Esmaeilian came together in the year of 2007 with the emphasis on creating fresh, original and diverse ideas that would appeal to a large variety of moviegoers. The two partners decided to collectively invest a small sum of their own money to produce the company’s first in-house short, ‘Kamakiri’, with the intent on using it as a reflection of their creativity and dedication to the goal they set out to achieve. They assumed many production roles during the process and maximized many technological utilities to help them understand how a film can go from a thought to a finished piece.

By the end of 2007, they used the short film as an investment tool to help raise a startup fund. This investment allowed the founders to invest 100% of their time towards the establishment of Linear Pictures LLC. At the time Linear Pictures had 2 scripts finished and ready to shoot as feature films. Their first feature film, ‘In My Pocket’, was developed as a festival piece. Its’ graphic view of the LA underground drug culture depicts social undertones in a realistic manner.

In June 2008, Linear Pictures raised funds for the production of “In My Pocket’. The company fully staffed and wrapped principal photography in 8 weeks time. They completed the film on time and came under budget by over $100,000. This surplus of capital has allowed Linear Pictures to take IN MY POCKET to festivals where it has already begun generating acclaim, such as the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 2009 Palm Beach International Film Festival and the Golden Sanese for Best Feature Film at the Terra di Siena Film Festival in Siena, Italy. More importantly, this action gives the film the exposure it needs to be picked up by a distributor. In less than five months, Linear Pictures financed, completed pre-production, principal photography and post-production of their first in-house feature film IN MY POCKET; the most critical first step toward establishing a company that will make a positive impact in its industry.
